24 December 2017 – Dube Continental FC’s assistant coach Collen Hans, whose side reached last year’s Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge final, was present on Saturday afternoon (23 December 2017) when Strokes FC sauntered past Dibabas FC with a 10-0 scoreline to book a date with them in this year’s last 16 knockout matches.
With his arms folded, Hans’ face cringed each time their now Tuesday afternoon (26 December 2017) opponents weaved beautiful passes amongst themselves in the final third, before scoring 10 of the most beautiful goals on the day.
And that’s because at the back of his mind, Hans was very much aware of the amount of work his side would have to put in their defensive third, if they are to stand a chance against a side which scored a total of 26 goals in their Group G matches.
In comparison, Continental, who finished top of Group B with 17 points, could only score 16 from seven group matches played.
Hans’ head coach Sipho Khumalo though, expressed that he was very much aware of the threat they were up against in pursuit of reaching the final again, like they did last year, however, he also added that he was not losing any sleep over the possibility of losing against them in their upcoming fixture.
“I trust my boys,” said Khumalo, “Strokes aren’t a side to be losing any sleep over. I didn’t even bother in following their matches, and that’s mainly because I have full confidence in my players.
“I’m also very much aware of the quality they have up in their final third. We’ll prepare well for them. I’m positive that we’ll go through to the quarter-finals.”
Meanwhile, exciting debutants La-Masia FC, who finished top of Group E, will take on Meadowlands Academy, while crowd favourites Soweto All Stars are expected to battle it out with Soweto Super United, in pursuit of a top eight spot in the cup competition.
